How to Join

This is a closed community with limits on posting and commenting. Why? To uphold the quality of discussion, to discourage spamming, and to maintain the sense of community. Membership is extended at the discretion of the moderator.

All discussion is done through public posts. The main benefits of membership are the ability to post, the ability to comment, and the privilege of voting in book selection polls. There's no need to request membership if you only plan on lurking. In addition, I hope that you won't request membership if you only plan to participate in one month's discussion. We are looking for members who are open to trying new books, new authors, and new genres. This is not to say that you can't take a month off here or there, but we are looking for people who are in for at least the somewhat long haul.

To apply for membership, please leave a comment on the journal of the community moderator, rilina. Do not apply through LJ without leaving a note on the moderator's journal; all such requests will be ignored. Be sure to mention if a current member has referred you. In the absence of a referral from a current member or acquaintance through another community or website, decisions will be based largely on your own journal. We'll be looking for posts that show an interest in reading and books and an ability to follow rule #2 in the list below. If your journal is friends-locked, we won't be able to accept your application without a reference from a current member.

Please observe the following guidelines in your posts and comments.

1. All posts and comments should be on topic.

2. No netspeak is allowed. Please use proper grammar, capitalization, and spelling at all times.

3. Do not spoil major plot points for other members. We all read at different rates, and some members might choose to read discussions before they have finished the month's selection. All spoilers should be hidden by an LJ cut tag. Click here for instructions on how to use the cut tag. Obviously, there should also be no spoilers in post titles.

4. Please avoid redundancy. If another member has already started a post on Character A, please put your response as a comment to that post. Of course, if you would like to start a discussion on a new aspect of the book, feel free to make a new post.

5. Flame War - "When an online discussion degenerates into a series of personal attacks against the debators, rather than discussion of their positions." Flaming will not be tolerated. I don't anticipate this being a problem, but it should be said.

6. Repeated violations of any of these guidelines will lead to a revocation of membership.

Please direct any questions to the community's moderator, rilina.
